Welcome to my web page!

My name is Michele Diss and I am the school psychologist for the Villa Grove School District. This is my third year working with the Villa Grove School District, although it is my first year actually being employeed by the Villa Grove School District.  Sound confusing?  It really isn't.  Last January the Villa Grove school board decided that it would be in the school's best interest to hire their own school psychologist rather than hiring my services from the Eastern Illinois Area of Special Education.  So, I was employed by EIASE as a school psychologist and had been assigned to the Villa Grove school district for the 2007-2008 and the 2008 -2009 school year.  Unfortunately, I was only assigned to the Villa Grove for two days a week, which really wasn't enough time to do my job effectively and efficiently.  Now that I am employed by the VG school district I am available five days a week and it has made a huge difference in my ability to work with students in a more timely fashion.

Want to know a little bit more about me?  I am originally from Champaign, having graduated from Centennial High School.  My family then moved to the Chicago area, which I only visited during summer breaks while attending Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington IL.  I received my Bachelor of Science degree from IWU and then moved to Charleston IL where I received my Masters degree (plus many more additional college courses) in psychology from Eastern Illinois University.  I completed a one year internship program in Bourbonnais IL and then moved back to Charleston where I began working for the Eastern Illinois Area of Special Education.  EIASE covers an 8 county area and during my 15 years working for them I'm pretty sure I was in every county at some time or another.  Many years ago I also worked for the Macon-Piatt special education cooperative, but was only there for 2 years.

I currently live in Charleston Illinois, where my husband and I have lived for the past 23 years.  We have two children;  Travis, who is a Senior this year and Meagan, who is a Sophmore.  So far, I don't really mind the drive from Charleston to Villa Grove and have been able to listen to a few books on tape to make the trip go quicker.

Please feel free to contact me anytime at school if you should have any questions.  My website also has some useful information regarding RtI, Aimsweb and some helpful educational links and topics.  Thanks--
