Solar Eclipse Information

Parents/Guardians,

On August 21, 2017 the moon will pass between the earth and the sun for the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse since 1918. The eclipse is projected to peak at 1:21:04 pm, when the moon obscures 93.9% of the sun in our area. Our students will be in school during this event and our educators will take full advantage of this to make it a tremendous learning experience for our students.

However, due to the risks involved with the glasses and with the goal being eye safety for everyone, students and staff in Villa Grove Schools WILL NOT VIEW the solar eclipse OUTSIDE. Students will have the opportunity to view the eclipse broadcasted inside the classrooms and will be able to view changes occurring by looking outside the windows from their seat. Elementary will also have inside recess during the day on Monday.

A live stream video of the eclipse can be found at:

Allergy Guidelines Notice

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Here at Villa Grove Schools, we pride ourselves in educating and protecting each of our students to the best of our ability.  Because of this we are implementing some new safeguards for our students with food allergies.

There will be no food allowed in classroom in the high school and junior high.  The students can only eat in designated areas and sit in the sections of the cafeteria that is assigned for peanuts if they bring peanut products of any kind.

At the elementary, the students may bring in treats for special occasions (ie birthday or holiday parties) but they must be store bought with labels on them and checked in at the office first thing in the morning by the office staff.  Please avoid peanut products when bringing in snacks. Each teacher will be sending home a letter if their class has a student with any allergy..  At lunch, the students will sit in the assigned sections of the cafeteria for peanuts if they bring any kind of peanut product.

Thank you for caring about all our students and following our new guidelines to keep everyone safe.  Remember every child is someone’s child and we educate them all.

Sincerely,

Villa Grove Administration
